Violent attacks on citizens continue to happen again and again. Although public safety is very successful in preventing many of these, our enemies only need to be successful once. It is not enough to stand by or ignore the potential to be involved in an event. All citizens should be prepared and trained to know how to react, and how simple actions can help to save lives among the injured. Civilian bystanders who happen to be involved in these events should be trained and empowered to do what they can to help save their own and other’s lives until medical and law enforcement responders arrive on the scene.
This 4-hour course will provide an overview of the history, science, and evolution of Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC), provide medical education and training to civilian personnel for application in various emergency situations, incidents, and environments, cover types of injuries and applicable TECC interventions to improve survival including developing hands-on proficiency with bleeding control, simple airway management and body positioning, recognition and simple management of chest and torso injury, recognition and simple management of shock and prevention of hypothermia, simple wound care, efficient patient movement, and mitigating collateral damage. Hands-on training for TECC interventions include tourniquets, wound packing, compression bandages, occlusive dressing/chest seals, lifts/moves/carries, and hypothermia prevention.
Students must be at least 18-years-old (16 and 17 year-olds may attend with a guardian).
